Growing up in my family, everything was always very conservative. From religion, to politics, to manners, we were always old-fashioned. With this being said; I was always taught by my mother to never be judgmental towards other people who weren’t the same as I was, or had different opinions than our family did, and to accept people for how they are. So, on the subject of homosexuality; Who are we to judge?
In this video, this woman speaks of how Christians say that being homosexual is unnatural. Again, this is all opinions that are created by individuals. Not everyone believes the same thing. Yes, it is okay to have faith in one thing and to stick by it, but the Bible teaches to never judge, or you will be judged; to never condemn, or you will be condemned. She also talks about the 10 commandments and how we each sin everyday. Every sin is no greater than another, and for people to judge a homosexual, in itself, is sinning.
In this video documentary from CBS in the 1960s, this reporter talks about homosexuality as a whole. He says that homosexuality is disapproving in the eye of society, that being homosexual is more harmful to society than adultery, abortion, and prostitution. To me, this is ridiculous. To say that being homosexual is worse than murder of an unborn baby and selling your body on the street is offensive. Of course, this was back in earlier times, and now that it is 2012, homosexuality is more socially accepted, but he also says that it is embarrassing and disgusting. People in this day of age still talk about homosexuals in these terms. If a person chooses to be homosexual, how does it affect you?
In this CNN interview with Joel Osteen, a widely known preacher in the U.S., the interviewer asks Joel about his viewpoint on homosexuality. Joel does admit that he believes that homosexuality is a sin, but he also goes on to say that he will not bash gay people for being gay, that there are many other sins that are committed by Christians DAILY, and that the Bible tells us not to judge our neighbor. This is an example of a Christian (to me) that sticks by his faith and his beliefs, but also doesn't judge people for the way they are and their differences.
This is a video of a gay man, that is also a Christian. He talks about how Christians believe all the same things. That Jesus died on the cross to save us from our sins, etc. He also says that in the Bible it says that if you are a believer of God, that he will love you no matter what and never turn you away. Christians believe that God forgives you for your sins; whether this be homosexuality, prostitution, someone who has committed adultery, God still loves you and forgives you and will never "throw you out".
With all of these videos to back up my opinions on Christianity and homosexuality, I would like to say that just because you might have different beliefs than others around you, it is NEVER okay to judge someone else. If you are a true Christian, you will accept people for the way they are and never pass judgment, because you know that the only person that can judge you is God.
